Case Study Three
WESCO's relationship with a southeast utility began in the late 1990s, when WESCO developed a cross-docking and bin-stocking program that enabled the utility to eliminate more than 200 items, which translated into $2 million in inventory and 40% of the stock in their central warehouse.
The utility utilizes WESCO's e-Stock inventory management program to place orders via the Internet for material, which, in the past, had been ordered from the utility's central warehouse.
To make sure that the required products and supplies are in the utility's hands when and where they are needed, WESCO's truck cross-docks material to the central warehouse — inventory can be onsite within 24 hours. With the changes that WESCO implemented, the utility realizes increased savings each year through their supply chain process efficiencies.
