Case Study Two
WESCO and a large, mid-Atlantic utility participate in a long-term strategic alliance, which initially was tasked to consolidate more than 140 blanket orders for MRO and transmission and distribution hardware material requirements.
The overall scope includes kitting and bin stock replenishment of material at the utility’s district storeroom locations, as well as coordinated distribution from the utility’s central Distribution Center to all district warehouse and power plant storeroom locations.
To achieve the greatest cost savings for the utility, WESCO concentrated on standardization and an aggressive substitution program for investment reduction. Initially serviced by multiple Branches, this alliance incorporates a storeroom management program where WESCO leases more than 80% of the central warehouse facilities to serve as an independent utility Branch location serving not only the utility, but also several other investor-owned and public-power utilities serving the local grid.
