Edison Electric Institute recognizes Central Vermont Public Service

EEI's Emergency Response Awards recognize member companies that put forth outstanding efforts to restore service promptly to the public following a natural disaster.

Central Vermont Public Service (CVPS) was the 2008 Winner of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Emergency Response Award for the New England Ice Storm of 2008.

This storm was twice as bad as the worst recorded up to that point in history, and yielded very heavy levels of precipitation in the form of freezing rain.  Ice accumulation measured up to 1.25” or more in an area reaching from New York to New Hampshire. The greatest damage was in the Southern District, a rugged and rural area with 5 customers per line mile. Cell phone service was completely unavailable due to the rough terrain and weather. CVPS employs 93 lineworkers, but pulled together a team of over 600 workers (6 forestry employees managed 75 tree crews) to aid during the crisis. After restoring power in 6 days with zero accidents, CVPS assisted its neighbors in recovery.

“I wanted to let you know that the Storm Pallets that were jointly designed by WESCO and CVPS were a lifesaver during our December Ice Storm.  The ability to obtain the materials in such a quick and efficient manner made our service restoration go much more smoothly than it could have, had we not utilized this process.

Thank you for your continued support and assistance.“
